In a significant move to alleviate the financial burden, the federal government has announced a comprehensive relief plan aimed at increasing subsidies on essential food items available at utility stores nationwide.
The proposed plan includes a substantial 300 percent increase in subsidies for key food staples such as flour, rice, and pulses. Specifically, the subsidy on flour and rice is projected to rise from Rs25 to Rs100 per kilogram. Similarly, the subsidy on pulses is expected to see an increase from Rs70 to Rs100 per kilogram. Additionally, the government plans to boost the subsidy on sugar from Rs25 to Rs100 per kilogram.
Maintaining continuity, the government has also decided to retain the existing subsidy model for flour under the Prime Minister’s relief package, ensuring that citizens continue to benefit from the support.
This new relief plan has been forwarded to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) for approval. Following the ECC’s endorsement and subsequent approval from the federal cabinet, the plan is set to be implemented. The launch of this enhanced relief package is anticipated on August 1.
