The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) have joined forces to upgrade legal education standards in Pakistan. This partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to overhaul the current legal education system, ensuring higher quality and more rigorous training for law graduates. With a focus on revising the LLB curriculum and enhancing faculty training, the HEC and PBC are committed to implementing stringent quality assurance criteria across legal education institutions. This collaborative effort marks a significant step towards elevating the standards of legal education in the country.
The MoU signing ceremony, held in Islamabad, saw the participation of key figures including Federal Minister for Law & Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar and HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed. Notable PBC members such as Syed Amjad Shah, Hassan Raza Pasha, Haroon Rashid, as well as Barrister Usama Malik, Director (DLE) of PBC, and Tariq Iqbal, Director (Admn/Litigation) at HEC, were also present.
The agreement was officially signed by Prof. Dr. Anwar Gilani, Consultant (Quality Assurance) at HEC, and Barrister Usama Malik. This MoU focuses on overhauling the LLB syllabus, improving the quality of law graduates, and advancing the training of law faculty across Pakistan. Both HEC and PBC have committed to the rigorous implementation of quality assurance criteria for legal education institutions under this agreement.
