Pakistan reiterated its commitment to CPEC Phase 2, emphasizing collaboration with China to foster shared prosperity and global peace. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is poised to transform the nation’s economy.
President Asif Ali Zardari also highlighted that the high-quality development of CPEC Phase 2 would unlock greater benefits for the people, enhancing connectivity and regional prosperity. “We are entering into CPEC Phase 2, which holds immense potential for mutual cooperation in agriculture, information technology, mines, and minerals, among other key sectors,” stated PM Shehbaz Sharif.
Speaking at the National Day Reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy, he celebrated the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. Acknowledging China’s pivotal role in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, the Prime Minister reiterated that this ongoing partnership not only supports regional development and peace but also contributes to global stability. This aligns with President Xi Jinping’s vision for international cooperation.
In addition, PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed eagerness to welcome the Chinese Prime Minister, who will attend the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of Government (SCO CHG) meeting in Islamabad.
Reflecting on October 1, President Asif Ali Zardari remarked that it symbolizes the rebirth of a strong, united China, achieved through the Chinese people’s heroic struggle under the leadership of the Communist Party.
PM to attend UNGA meeting
In related news, the Foreign Office spokesperson announced Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s agenda during his visit to New York for the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The Prime Minister will reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and advocate for resolving long-standing disputes, particularly the Palestine and Kashmir conflicts, which threaten global peace and security. Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, PM Shehbaz Sharif will participate in discussions on the ‘Existential Threat Posed by Sea-Level Rise’ and engage in a UN Security Council debate on ‘Leadership for Peace.’

Additionally, he is scheduled to meet world leaders, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres and UN General Assembly President Philemon Yang. Meanwhile, Deputy PM Dar will represent Pakistan at the ‘Summit of the Future’ and attend various other important meetings, including the OIC Annual Coordination Meeting of Foreign Ministers and the G77 & China ministerial gathering.
