CSS Examination Updates: NA Approved Major Changes in Age & Attempts

CSS examination updates got approved by NA (National Assembly) on Friday, 27th May 2025. The NA passed a resolution to increase the maximum limit of age and attempts for candidates who want to appear in the CSS examination. The new policy will take effect in 2026.

The CSS (Central Superior Services) Examination is a highly competitive exam in Pakistan that serves as a gateway to Pakistani civil and federal services. The exam is conducted by FPSC (Federal Public Services Commission) to fill 17th-grade positions in several service groups, for instance, administration, foreign affairs, customs, and more. Mostly fresh university graduates and young professionals attempt to do CSS examinations and prefer civil services. But it has strict rules in terms of age and number of attempts.

However, with the successful efforts of Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, MNA of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, CSS examination rules get updated. The new resolution increased the age limit for candidates from 30 to 35 years, and it permits a total of five attempts instead of three.

Moreover, the lawmakers appealed to the National Assembly to execute these reforms without any delay. The new initiative aims to provide broader access and greater flexibility for prospective applicants who need more time to prepare or join the workforce later.
