Europe’s $1 Trillion Defense Budget: A Mark to Global Power Shift

Europe’s $1 trillion defense budget is announced to invest in its own defense system. It could be a historic challenge for Europe to defend itself without united states military. However, according to defense express, investment might not give any guaranteed protection from Russia.

IISS (International Institute for Strategic Studies) suggests that Europe would need to invest at least $1 trillion, which is only a third of the amount granted to weapons procurement only, if it wanted to defend itself on its own.

The list of projected military  assets that are necessary includes:

  1. 600 Tanks
  2. 800 IFVs (Infantry Fighting Vehicles)
  3. 900 Heavy APCs (Armored Personnel Carriers)
  4. 400 WAVs (Wheeled Armored Vehicles)
  5. 4,200 Protected Mobility Vehicles

Furthermore, a specific need for Artillery and missile systems includes:

  1. 100 tracked self-activated Howitzers
  2. 100 wheeled Howitzers

  4. 400 Tactical Ballistic Missile System
  5. Dozens of Air Defense System (Patriot, SAMP/T, THAAD)

  3. Dozens of Reconnaissances
  4. Dozens of Combat Aircrafts
  5. 3,700 Air-to-Air Missiles
