The Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) has declared an indefinite strike halting operations in protest against the imposition of a withholding tax.
PFMA (Pakistan Flour Mills Association) Punjab Chairman Asim Raza announced the decision, stating that taxing flour, a staple food item, is unreasonable and unacceptable. He emphasized that flour millers will not act as tax agents for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
As a result, wheat processing in over 1,500 flour mills nationwide has ceased, with flour packing and supply scheduled to stop from July 11.
PFMA (Pakistan Flour Mills Association) Central Chairman Chaudhry Amir Abdullah cited a persistent deadlock with the government over the withholding tax as the reason for suspending mill operations. He urged the government to revoke the tax, arguing that it unfairly burdens the public.
Ch. Amir Abdullah criticized the FBR for failing to meet tax targets and for placing excessive tax burdens on citizens.
