Govt rejects claims of internet slowdowns and blames excessive VPN use for disruptions, clarifying that VPN usage affects internet speed.

State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has refuted allegations that the government has intentionally slowed down or blocked internet services. Instead, she attributes recent disruptions to the increased use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

In a recent press conference, Shaza Fatima reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing the country’s IT infrastructure and attracting further investment in the sector. She unveiled plans for the establishment of the National Digitalisation Commission and IT parks in Islamabad and Karachi.

Additionally, Shaza Fatima highlighted the government’s collaboration with major tech companies, including Google and Meta, to offer certifications for children. She also introduced the Bridge Start Programme, backed by a Rs1 billion budget, aimed at supporting innovative tech projects.
