A remote-controlled IED blast in Peshawar injured two policemen and three others. The blast occurred around a police van patrolled the area, according to Warsak Superintendent of Police (SP) Arshad Khan.
SP Arshad Khan revealed that the explosive device, which contained four to five kilograms of explosives, was triggered remotely. In response, police have detained six to seven suspects for further investigation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Kashif Zulfiqar confirmed that evidence has been collected from the crime scene. “We have observed an increase in terrorist attacks on Warsak Road,” SSP Kashif Zulfiqar noted. He added that a grenade attack on Mathura police station had occurred recently. The police are collaborating with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for a joint operation in the Warsak Road area to address the rising threats.
This attack is part of a broader trend of escalating violence against police officials and checkposts, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The surge in attacks follows the collapse of a ceasefire agreement with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in 2022, which has since intensified its assaults on security forces.
In related incidents, a head constable was martyred and another constable injured in a grenade attack on a check post in Mayar, Lower Dir, earlier this week. Last month, militants targeted a police post in Peshawar’s Regi Model Town, injuring a constable. The deadly suicide attack on a mosque in Peshawar’s Police Lines in January 2023, which claimed 100 lives, was also attributed to the TTP, although the group later denied responsibility.
