IMF rejects Pakistan budget targets, including those projects that fall under the public sector development program. According to the IMF (International Monetary Fund), their major concerns are the large numbers of development programs that are approved but are incomplete. These projects resulted in substantial “throw-forward,” which has crossed PKR 10,000 billion.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shebaz Sharif, has ordered the ministry of planning to submit detailed reports on 500 development programs that are still under development. Many of these are infrastructure-related projects.
However, the government is facing difficulties in finalizing the development budget for fiscal year 2025-26. While the coordination between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Planning is still not settled, as no budget target has been agreed upon yet.
Moreover, the meeting of the Annual Planning Coordination Committee, which was meant to finalize the PSDP (Public Sector Development Program) targets, has been postponed. A new date will be announced later. The meeting is expected to review these development programs of the fiscal year 2025-26 and propose the development strategy for the upcoming fiscal year.
