Kashmiris Marked India Independence Day as ‘Black Day’

On both sides of the Line of Control and globally, Kashmiris marked India Independence Day as ‘Black Day’ to protest New Delhi’s unlawful occupation of their homeland.

Leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), currently imprisoned in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail, have called on Kashmiris to send a powerful message to India, rejecting its occupation and demanding their fundamental right to self-determination.

In their statements, they have urged the international community to press India to recognize Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and end its occupation, which they argue violates UN resolutions and international law.

Indian authorities have implemented stringent restrictions across the Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in anticipation of India’s Independence Day.

Meanwhile, Kashmiri refugees have staged a demonstration at Azadi Chowk in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with anti-India rallies and protests planned in cities and towns on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC). Protesters are expected to wear black bands as a symbol of their opposition to India’s actions.

The day will be marked by widespread protests and demonstrations, reflecting Kashmiris’ ongoing demand for the right to self-determination.
