NA committee demands modern education facilities in the rural regions of Islamabad. The National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training, led by Dr. Azimuddin Zahid Lakhvi, discussed various agenda items, including ongoing school and college renovation projects.
A press release from the NA Secretariat highlighted that committee members expressed concern over the disparity in educational facilities between elite and peripheral areas of Islamabad. They stressed the importance of enhancing educational standards and ensuring equal opportunities for all students.
PML-N MNA Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz emphasized that the Ministry of Federal Education must pay special attention to rural areas. He noted that while various projects aim to improve urban educational infrastructure, rural schools suffer from a lack of basic facilities and teacher shortages. Nawaz also mentioned his donation of land worth Rs10 million for expanding a girls’ school in his constituency, which remains unused.
The committee voiced concern that ongoing projects primarily benefit urban schools, neglecting rural institutions. A committee member remarked on the apparent disparity between the education systems in urban and rural areas.
MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan proposed that committee members visit schools and colleges to evaluate the alignment of ongoing projects with the Prime Minister’s vision. He emphasized the importance of assessing whether the work aligns with national educational goals.
The Ministry of Federal Education briefed the committee on its role in developing educational policies and vocational training frameworks. The Secretary of Education highlighted progress in curriculum reforms, educational accessibility, and skills development, demonstrating the ministry’s commitment to an inclusive educational environment.
The committee praised the ministry’s recent four-month initiatives, including curriculum and assessment reforms, infrastructure improvements, and student support enhancements. They noted the need for equitable resource distribution to address disparities in educational quality.
