PTI Islamabad Rally Postponed to Avoid May 9 Like Riots: Imran Khan

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan asserts that PTI’s Islamabad rally postponed to preventing any potential riots, similar to the May 9 unrest. The power show is now rescheduled for September 8, 2024. Speaking to media after a hearing in the GBP190 million corruption case at Adiala Jail, Khan explained that his early morning meeting with Azam Khan Swati on August 22 revealed planned protests by other political and religious groups in Islamabad on the same day.

In response to inquiries, Imran Khan dismissed any suggestions that Swati was acting as an intermediary with government officials, labeling the current administration a “product of Form-47” with which he refuses to negotiate.

Imran Khan also defended his call for an open trial of former ISI chief Faiz Hameed, asserting that as the head of Pakistan’s largest political party, he has the right to request open proceedings for such serious allegations. He warned that the government might bypass the seniority rule if Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa doesn’t receive an extension, and expressed concerns about the judiciary’s credibility after the cancellation of the no-objection certificate (NOC) for the PTI rally.

Imran Khan emphasized that the September 8, 2024 rally will proceed as planned, with instructions to PTI leaders not to tolerate any obstacles. He also urged the party to decide on a protest date against the Supreme Court’s delay in issuing the detailed judgment in the reserved seats case.
