Saqib Nisar Rejects Allegations Connecting His London Travel to General Faiz Arrest

Former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Saqib Nisar rejects allegations connecting his London travel to the arrest of General (retd) Faiz Hamid, dismissing the fake news suggesting any link between the two. Saqib Nisar clarified that his trip was pre-planned for personal reasons, emphasizing that any claims tying his absence from Pakistan to the legal troubles of General Faiz Hamid are baseless and misleading. The former chief of Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency, General Faiz Hamid, is facing a court-martial for alleged misconduct linked to a private housing scheme.

Saqib Nisar stated, “I am in London to meet friends and family. I will also visit Scotland and Norway before returning to Pakistan in the first week of September. It’s unfortunate how fake news is being spread against me. I pray for the sanity of those who malign and target people unjustly.”

Social media speculated that the former CJP Saqib Nisar had fled to London and could be implicated in the broader investigation surrounding General Faiz Hamid’s arrest. However, Saqib Nisar categorically denied these claims, asserting that there is no truth to the allegations circulating in the media and on social platforms.

Military sources confirmed General Faiz Hamid’s arrest, citing multiple violations of the Army Act following his retirement in December 2022. The military has initiated Field General Court Martial proceedings, placing Hamid in military custody.

The Supreme Court had previously ordered an investigation into Faiz Hamid after a petition by Top City, a land development company, accused him of unlawfully acquiring properties with his brother and blackmailing the company’s owner.

Additionally, the military reported that three more retired officers have been taken into custody in connection with the court martial of General Faiz Hamid. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) revealed that these retired officers were arrested for actions prejudicial to military discipline and are under investigation for allegedly fostering instability in collusion with political interests.

Sources identified the detained officers as two retired brigadiers, Ghaffar and Naeem, both from Chakwal, and a retired colonel named Asim. The government has indicated that further arrests may follow in the coming days.
