Telegram New Features 2024 to Combat Illegal Content and Scammers

Pavel Durov, founder and CEO, announced Telegram new features 2024 aimed at curbing illicit content, bots, and scammers. These updates follow Pavel Durov’s arrest and subsequent charges by French authorities related to Telegram’s content moderation.

Pavel Durov, who was arrested on 24 August 2024 at Le Bourget airport, addressed his situation publicly for the first time. While he criticized the arrest as “misguided,” he admitted that Telegram “is not perfect” and outlined plans for stronger action against illegal activities on the platform. Despite 99.999% of Telegram’s 950 million users having no involvement in criminal activity, he noted that a small fraction contributes to a negative image.

Telegram new features 2024 introduce important changes aimed at enhancing user safety and platform reliability. Among these updates, Telegram has removed the “People Nearby” feature, which had been frequently misused by scammers. In its place, a new “Businesses Nearby” feature has been introduced, designed to help users discover verified businesses within their local area.

Additionally, Telegram has disabled ‘media uploads to Telegraph’, its blogging tool. This move addresses concerns over anonymous users exploiting the platform for potentially harmful purposes especially scammers. These new features highlight Telegram’s ongoing commitment to providing a secure and user-friendly environment in 2024.
