The federal cabinet emphasized Gwadar Port importance by approving a proposal from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, mandating all government departments to route 50% of their imports, including wheat, sugar, and fertilizer, through Gwadar Port. This decision underscores the growing importance of Gwadar Port in driving economic activity and regional development.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier issued directives to enhance Gwadar Port importance by expanding its operations, ensuring that 50% of all public sector imports pass through this strategic hub. This move is expected to accelerate the development and prosperity of Balochistan.
During the cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, it was also decided to boost exports from Gwadar Port. A subcommittee will be formed to submit quarterly reports on import and export activities through the port, reinforcing its significance in the country’s trade strategy.
In addition, the cabinet approved various other proposals, including a Memorandum of Understanding between Pakistan and Sri Lanka to issue a commemorative postal stamp marking 75 years of diplomatic ties. Furthermore, the Ministry of Industries and Production reported success in stabilizing sugar prices through timely exports, benefiting both farmers and the national economy.

The cabinet also approved the reconstitution of the Board of Directors of the Korangi Fish Harbour Authority, Karachi, and emphasized provincial representation on government boards. Additionally, key appointments and salary adjustments within the Planning Commission and Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan were endorsed.
