Pakistan Currency Notes Pen Marks Ban: Truth or Rumor?

Pakistan currency notes pen marks ban—a claim that has been rejected by the SBP (State Bank of Pakistan). The central bank has called these reports fake and misleading.

Noor Ahmed, the chief spokesperson of the State Bank of Pakistan, rejected all the rumors and clarified that the central bank has not issued any notification regarding the ceasing of marked currency notes as legal tender in the next fiscal year (2025-26), circulating on social media platforms. This statement is a response to a fake notice that falsely claimed that Pakistani rupee (PKR) currency notes having pen marks or handwriting would no longer be valid from 1st July 2025.

Moreover, the spokesperson also added in his statement that the currency notes are a national resource and service and should be handled with care to maintain their integrity. However, there is no such official policy that prohibits the use of the notes with pen markings.
