Qatar Airways 160 jets order is placed with Boeing on Wednesday, 14th May 2025, with options for 50 more during United States President Donald Trump’s visit to the Gulf Arab State. According to the White House, the deal, valued at $96 billion, includes Boeing 777X and 787 airplanes powered by GN aerospace engines.
Donald Trump and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani also attended the signing ceremony along with Kelly Ortberg, the CEO of Boeing and Badr Mohammad Al-Meer, CEO of Qatar Airways. According to Trump, Ortberg said that it was the largest jet order in Boeing history. The deal occurred during Donald Trump’s tour of Gulf states after deals with Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
According to Boeing, the deal is for 160 firm orders, including 130 787s and 30 777Xs, with the addition of 50 same-type aircraft, which raises company shares to 0.6% in New York. On the other hand, GE Aerospace stock rose to 0.7%. This sale is seen as a boost for Boeing and its engine supplier, while GE Aerospace is specially given maintenance issues with rival Airbus “A350” in hot climates.
Qatar adopted GE Aerospace’s GEnx engines for their 787s over Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 because GE Aerospace’s GE9X is the exclusive engine option for the 777X. 400GE engines is the largest deal for GE Aerospace. Qatar Airways also indicated they were working on a large order for wide-body jets in March, which aligns with the GE engines deal. Boeing also confirmed that the deal also included 521 777X and 825 787 planes ordered as of April 30, according to the company.
Even though it’s a win for Trump on a high-level visit to the Gulf regions, still it will take six years to complete the order because the 777X is under development and will start to deliver in 2026. Qatar has also ordered 94 777Xs, in contrast to Emirates which has ordered 205 777Xs. These two airlines were the first of those airlines to buy it when Boeing launched his program in 2013.
