In a recent news conference in Islamabad, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal made significant remarks on the Zionist lobby and former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s potential influence on Pakistan’s policy towards Israel. Ahsan Iqbal claimed that the Zionist lobby is actively working to reintroduce Imran Khan into power.
“The Zionist lobby is trying to reimpose Imran Khan on Pakistan. According to the Israeli newspaper, the PTI founder is the only acceptable person for the Israeli lobby in Pakistan,” stated Ahsan Iqbal, emphasizing the pressure that external forces may exert on the country’s political landscape. His comments highlight growing concerns among political leaders regarding foreign influence in domestic affairs.
Ahsan Iqbal also pointed out that the public is becoming increasingly aware of the motives behind what he termed the “PTI founder project.” This project is perceived by many as a strategic initiative orchestrated by the Zionist lobby to shape Pakistan’s foreign policy in favor of Israel.
Further illustrating his concerns, Ahsan Iqbal referenced Imran Khan’s support for his former brother-in-law, Zac Goldsmith, during the 2016 London mayoral election. Imran Khan openly opposed a Pakistani-origin candidate, showcasing what Ahsan Iqbal describes as a history of promoting divisive politics since 2013. “He has engaged in politics of hate and division, which has caused severe polarization in Pakistan,” Ahsan Iqbal added, suggesting that Khan’s political actions align with the interests of the Zionist lobby rather than the Pakistani populace.
The Jerusalem Post, published on 16 September 2024, provided an optimistic outlook on the “growing” recognition of Israel within the Muslim world. Written by Harry Richer, it posited that individuals like the incarcerated Imran Khan could play a pivotal role in shifting public opinion and military policy in Pakistan regarding Israel.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the implications of these remarks raise critical questions about the influence of the Zionist lobby on Pakistani politics and foreign relations.
