Imran Khan Appraised As Catalyst for Change in Israel Pakistan Relations: Israel Media Blog

The Times of Israel blog has identified Imran Khan, the founder PTI, as the ideal leader to foster Israel Pakistan relations and diplomatic ties. The blog emphasized Imran Khan’s foreign policy approach during his tenure as Prime Minister, highlighting his personal connections with influential pro-Israel figures, including his former in-laws, the Goldsmith family.

Imran Khan’s ties to his ex-wife, Jemima Goldsmith, and her family, particularly his brother-in-law Zac Goldsmith, have significantly shaped his perspective on Israel. Zac Goldsmith, a prominent figure in pro-Israel and Jewish circles, is said to have influenced Imran Khan’s views, providing him with a unique outlook that may make him more amenable to reconsidering Pakistan’s longstanding stance on Israel.

Historically, Pakistan has maintained a strong pro-Palestinian position, rooted in its identity as an Islamic Republic and its commitment to the global Muslim community. Successive Pakistani governments have condemned Israeli actions in Palestinian territories and refused to establish diplomatic relations. During his premiership, Imran Khan publicly upheld this position, criticizing Israeli policies and dismissing normalization efforts while the Palestinian issue remains unresolved.

However, according to the Times of Israel, informal messages have been conveyed to Israeli officials through the Goldsmith family, signaling potential moves toward normalizing ties between Israel and Pakistan. The blog suggests that while this poses significant challenges in Pakistan’s political landscape, Imran Khan’s leadership could facilitate a shift in Israel-Pakistan relations.

The article urges Israel and its allies to ensure Imran Khan remains politically active, emphasizing that his involvement in Pakistani politics is crucial for any potential diplomatic progress. During his time in office, Imran Khan adopted a pragmatic foreign policy that could reshape Pakistan’s approach to Israel.

“Our stance is very clear from day one, and Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah said that Pakistan can never accept the state of Israel until the people of Palestine receive their rights and state,” Imran Khan stated in a private news channel interview. He further asserted that recognizing Israel would compromise Pakistan’s position on Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), emphasizing that the Palestinian struggle parallels that of Kashmiris, who also face injustices.

Political analysts have noted increasing efforts by Zionist lobbies to secure Imran Khan’s release from detention, viewing the Times of Israel blog as part of a broader strategy to support his return to politics. Under Imran Khan’s leadership, Pakistan categorically rejected any possibility of establishing relations with Israel, particularly following Israel’s normalization deal with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2020.

In summary, while Imran Khan’s past statements reflect a firm stance against recognizing Israel, his unique background and connections may play a pivotal role in future discussions about Israel-Pakistan relations.
