A court sentenced Syed Faizan to nine years in prison for sharing obscene photos of his estranged wife on WhatsApp. Judicial Magistrate (East) Yusra Ashfaq found him guilty under Sections 20, 21, and 24 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016. SyedFaizan was also fined Rs 90,000, with an additional three-month jail term for non-payment.
The court noted that Syed Faizan’s actions were intended to blackmail and shame his wife during her cancer treatment, worsening her health. It emphasized the emotional and reputational harm inflicted on the victim and her family.
The case revealed that SyedFaizan demanded dowry, including Rs 500,000 in cash and 30 tolas of gold, and engaged in abusive behavior. He shared the explicit images with the victim’s brother to exert control. The FIA Cyber Crime Cell arrested Faizan in March 2022 after the victim’s brother reported receiving the obscene photos. Investigators found incriminating material on Faizan’s phone, and the court dismissed the defense’s claim of blurred images in the forensic report.
