The Active Taxpayers List For Women has been officially released by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), highlighting a significant milestone in Pakistan’s tax compliance framework. Over 1,064,639 women engaged in business activities have actively filed their income tax returns, making them part of the 2024 Active Taxpayers List (ATL).

Key Insights from the Active Taxpayers List For Women

The FBR’s data showcases the substantial contributions of women in various tax categories:

  • Individual Active Women Taxpayers:

A total of 138,841 individual women have declared income from business activities. This group represents the largest segment of active taxpayers under the FBR’s categorization.

  • Associations of Persons (AOPs):

Associations with 50% or more women members have reached 22,088 active taxpayers, reflecting growing representation in collective business ownership.

  • Women-Led Companies:

The number of companies with 50% or more women directors has seen a significant increase, climbing from 20,671 in 2022 to 41,629 in the 2024 tax period.

FBR’s Support for Women Entrepreneurs

The FBR remains committed to empowering women entrepreneurs by highlighting their tax contributions. By releasing the Active Taxpayers List For Women, the FBR aims to encourage female participation in Pakistan’s formal economy and tax system. This initiative is part of broader governmental efforts to foster economic inclusivity and gender equity.

Categories in the Active Taxpayers List For Women

To ensure comprehensive representation, the FBR has classified women taxpayers into three distinct categories:

  1. Individual Taxpayers: Women who have declared income from business activities, including income subject to the presumptive tax regime.
  2. Active Associations of Persons (AOPs): Business entities with 50% or more women members actively filing tax returns.
  3. Women-Led Companies: Corporations with 50% or more women directors contributing to tax filings.

This data will be updated every six months, providing ongoing insights into women’s tax compliance and business involvement.

Driving Economic Growth Through Women Empowerment

The publication of the Active Taxpayers List For Women reinforces the FBR’s role in promoting women entrepreneurship. By shedding light on their growing presence in the tax net, the FBR aims to inspire more women to engage in business and contribute to Pakistan’s economy.

This effort aligns with the government’s long-term vision of fostering an inclusive, gender-balanced economic environment where women can thrive as entrepreneurs and taxpayers.

NADRA tax data sharing with FBR has accelerated, resulting in a notable increase in the number of tax filers across Pakistan. This collaboration is a key component of the government’s broader tax reforms, designed to boost the tax-to-GDP ratio as part of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program. Below is an overview of how these initiatives are shaping the future of taxation in Pakistan.
