Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the “Public School Reorganization Program” at a ceremony aimed at overhauling Punjab’s education system. The program introduces reforms targeting infrastructure improvements, increased resources, and better management of schools.
During her address, CM Maryam Nawaz highlighted several key initiatives that the government is undertaking to elevate the standard of education in the province.
Key Features of the ‘Public School Reorganization Program’ Unveiled by Maryam Nawaz:
1. 5,800 Schools to be Outsourced in First Phase via Public-Private Partnerships
The program will begin by outsourcing 5,800 schools across Punjab through public-private partnerships. This model is intended to improve the management and performance of schools while keeping them accessible to all students.
2. School Transport Systems to Undergo Strict Inspections
Maryam Nawaz issued directives to all district commissioners (DCs) and police officers in Punjab to conduct thorough inspections of school transport systems. “No compromise on children’s safety will be tolerated. Any failure in these inspections will be dealt with seriously,” she warned.
3. Public School Students Excel Despite Limited Resources
CM Nawaz praised public school students for consistently topping national exams despite the lack of resources. She committed to providing better facilities, stating, “If we equip these students with the right tools, they will shine not just in Pakistan but on the global stage.”
4. Government to Invite Educated Youth to Manage Schools
In a bid to foster better management, the Punjab government will be inviting educated youth to help run schools. “We are encouraging young talent to come forward, and the government will provide them with full support and the necessary resources to succeed,” said CM Nawaz.
5. Government to Maintain Checks and Balances on Outsourced Schools
Maryam Nawaz stressed that although some schools will be outsourced, the government will maintain a strict system of checks and balances to ensure quality education. “We will not relinquish oversight, and the government will monitor the outsourced schools closely,” she emphasized.
6. Last IT Labs in Punjab Were Built During Shehbaz Sharif’s Tenure
The Chief Minister pointed out that the last time IT labs were constructed in Punjab schools was during Shehbaz Sharif’s administration, highlighting the need for technological upgrades in schools to keep up with modern educational demands.
7. Zebra Crossings to Be Built for Children’s Safety
To improve road safety around schools, CM Nawaz announced the construction of zebra crossings in front of all schools. This will ensure that children can cross busy roads without the fear of traffic, enhancing their safety.
8. PTI Education Minister Accused of 1 Billion Corruption at Punjab Textbook Board
During her speech, Maryam Nawaz revealed allegations against the former PTI Education Minister for involvement in a corruption scandal worth 1 billion at the Punjab Textbook Board. This embezzlement deprived students of crucial resources, and we are committed to holding the responsible individuals accountable.
