Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz officially launched the “School Nutrition Program” at the Government Primary School MC-1. During her address, she shared that the idea for this initiative arose after she learned about children fainting in schools due to hunger. The program aims to provide a daily milk packet to schoolchildren up to class V, ensuring they receive essential nutrients.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that though the School Nutrition Program is a costly endeavor, nothing is more important than the health and well-being of children. She stressed the need for other provinces to implement similar initiatives, highlighting the widespread issues of nutritional deficiencies and stunted growth in Pakistan.
In her visit, she personally distributed milk packs to the students, discussed their education and health, and took steps to address the unemployment of a student’s father. The School Nutrition Program is currently a pilot project focused on Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and Muzaffargarh, where over 400,000 students in 3,527 schools will benefit from daily milk packs.

The proceeds from recycling the empty packs will be invested back into the schools, further enhancing the program’s impact. Maryam Nawaz praised Provincial Minister for School Education Rana Sikandar Hayat for reducing the cost of each milk packet from Rs 85-90 to Rs63, making the program more sustainable.
