Pakistani Raza Nazar Elected President of Oxford Trinity College Graduate Community, marking the first time a Pakistani student has held this prestigious position. Raza Nazar’s election as President is a testament to his leadership and dedication, as he represents a diverse and talented group of students from around the world. His achievement highlights the significant contributions of Pakistani students on a global stage, reinforcing the importance of representation in esteemed academic institutions like Oxford.

Raza Nazar’s academic journey began at Karachi Grammar School and continued at the United World College (UWC) in Singapore. He is the son of economist Yousuf Nazar, a frequent analyst. Raza Nazar later graduated in law from the London School of Economics (LSE), where he served as president of the LSE Law Society. During his time at LSE, he co-founded the LSE Future of Pakistan Conference, an annual forum connecting students, experts, and ministers. His achievements include being shortlisted among the Top 5 Future Lawyers (One’s To Watch) by Bright Network and training at the prestigious magic circle law firm, Slaughter and May.

At Oxford, Raza Nazar pursued a Bachelor of Civil Laws (BCL), recognized as one of the most esteemed master’s-level qualifications in the Common Law world. He joins a distinguished group of Pakistani alumni, including former Prime Minister Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy and former President Wasim Sajjad, who have completed the BCL. Notably, Raza Nazar ranked second in his class for Jurisprudence and Political Theory and received multiple scholarships, including the Verulam Buildings Chambers Scholarship, an Oxford Pakistan Programme (OPP) Scholarship, and the Jeffrey Abbott Scholarship.

Expressing his gratitude, Raza Nazar told, “I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to make a positive impact in an institution that is over four centuries old. We have a talented and diverse group of students, ranging from quantum physicists to solar cell researchers, from all over the world.” He also praised the Oxford Pakistan Programme, led by Professor Adeel Malik, for its support of Pakistani scholars and groundbreaking research.

Raza Nazar’s research focuses on constitutional theory and autonomy, and as an active UWC alumnus, he advocates for concept-based learning to empower individuals. Reflecting on Trinity College’s rich history, which dates back to 1555 and boasts numerous notable alumni, including three British Prime Ministers and several Nobel laureates, Raza Nazar expressed his gratitude to his parents for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
