Pakistani psychological drama Kamli, directed by Sarmad Khoosat, is set to make its UK television debut on Channel 4. Part of the South Asian Film Season curated by Indian cinema expert Nasreen Kabir, Kamli will air on 10 September 2024 at 1:45 AM UK time, with streaming available on the Channel 4 website afterward.
This highly anticipated screening marks the film’s first UK television and OTT release. Sarmad Khoosat shared the exciting news on social media, stating, “Very happy and truly humbled to announce that Kamli will have its UK television premiere and OTT release on the prestigious Channel 4 this September 2024.”
The South Asian Film Season, kicking off on 8 September 2024, showcases a diverse lineup of films tackling crucial themes such as class, race, gender, and politics. With a mix of genres from drama to documentary, the season promises a thought-provoking cinematic experience.
Kamli tells the powerful story of three women navigating emotional and personal challenges in rural Pakistan. Saba Qamar plays Hina, a woman waiting for her husband, who has been abroad for eight years. When a mysterious drifter, Amaltas (Hamza Khawaja), enters her life, emotions flare. Meanwhile, Zeenat (Nimra Bucha), an artist, grapples with her unraveling life and struggles with sobriety.
The film has already garnered critical acclaim, with Sarmad Khoosat winning Best Director at the DC South Asian Film Festival, and Kamli taking home two awards at the Listapad Festival in Belarus. Actress Sania Saeed also won Best Actress at MISAFF for her remarkable performance.
