Nine talented Pakistani students achieved remarkable success at Istanbul University Model United Nations (IUMUN), the largest Turkey’s Public Speaking Competition, held from July 8 to 11, 2024. This prestigious event, hosted by Istanbul University, stands as one of Europe’s premier public speaking forums.
Istanbul University, established in 1453, is renowned for its academic excellence, with 57 disciplines and a legacy of distinguished alumni, including former Turkish President Abdullah Gul and former Turkish Foreign Minister Taran Gunes.
This year’s IUMUN attracted over 750 students from more than 17 countries, alongside local participants from Turkey. Representing Pakistan were 13 students from Bay View Academy, Nixor O’Levels, Karachi Grammar School, and The Cedar School.
Despite being among the youngest competitors, the Pakistani team excelled against college and university students, showcasing their exceptional skills in diplomacy and public speaking across ten challenging committees over the four-day event.
The Consul General of Pakistan in Istanbul, H.E. Mr. Nauman Aslam, warmly welcomed the team and their trainer at the Pakistan Consulate, extending congratulations for their outstanding achievements. In his address, Mr. Aslam emphasized the significance of cultural and educational exchanges between Pakistan and Turkey to bolster Pakistan’s global image.
He also highlighted the importance of strengthening educational ties between the two countries and assured continued support from the Pakistani Mission in Turkey for students’ endeavors.
