Aleema Khan Accused PTI Leadership of Lacking Intent to Free Imran Khan from Jail

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan accused PTI leadership of lacking intent to free Imran Khan from jail. She expressed serious doubts about their commitment to securing his release, stating that they have no ‘real intention’ of freeing the former prime minister, which casts a shadow over the party’s recent decisions.

Her comments followed the PTI’s announcement to postpone a public gathering in Islamabad, initially scheduled for today, to September 8, 2024. This change came after local authorities revoked the no-objection certificate (NOC) and sealed off roads leading to the capital.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed the postponement, citing instructions from Imran Khan. In a short audio clip circulating on social media, Aleema Khan voiced her frustration over the rally’s delay, questioning why senior PTI leader Azam Swati had met with Imran early in the morning and what directives were given regarding the postponement.

Aleema Khan criticized the current PTI leadership for seeking counsel from Imran Khan, who is imprisoned at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, highlighting their lack of courage to make independent decisions. She accused them of using his name while operating independently and claimed they have no genuine intention of advocating for his release.

This criticism adds to a series of attacks on the existing PTI leadership. Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry also remarked that the chances of Imran Khan’s release are slim under the current leadership. He pointed out that the party is suffering due to a lack of political strategy and suggested that capable leaders like Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pervaiz Elahi, and Asad Qaiser should take charge.

Fawad Chaudhry emphasized the need for PTI leaders to refrain from unrealistic expectations regarding Imran Khan’s early release through ongoing court battles, labeling their discussions as “foolish talks.”
