Asif Zardari & Fazlur Rehman Discuss Legislation Matters Before Joint Session to Prepare for Crucial Parliamentary Decisions.
President Asif Ali Zardari held a pivotal meeting with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad, amidst reports of an imminent joint session of parliament on August 28, 2024. Accompanied by Interior Minister Senator Mohsin Naqvi, President Zardari visited Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence in the federal capital.
Prominent JUI-F leaders, including Maulana Abdul Ghafoor, Maulana Asad Mehmood, Aslam Ghauri, and Engineer Ziaur Rehman, were also present at the meeting. The leaders engaged in extensive discussions on key legislation expected to be introduced during the upcoming joint parliamentary session. Sources hinted that critical issues, including the prevailing political situation, were part of the agenda.
In a gesture of goodwill, President Asif Ali Zardari gifted a gun to Maulana Fazlur Rehman during the meeting.
Meanwhile, the federal government has decided to convene the joint session of parliament on August 28, 2024 with instructions for lawmakers to ensure their attendance. Additionally, President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned sessions of the National Assembly on August 26 and the Senate on August 27, 2024 as per Article 54(1) of the Constitution.
This meeting follows a recent discussion between PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, focusing on the current political climate and prospective legislation. Sources indicate that the coalition government, led by PM Shehbaz Sharif, has taken the PPP leadership into confidence on these important legislative matters.
In related developments, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and JUI-F have reached a consensus on cooperation within the National Assembly and the Senate. This agreement was solidified following a meeting between PTI leaders and Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence. PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan stated that both parties’ leadership teams will continue to collaborate in the National Assembly and Senate. JUI-F’s Ziaur Rehman added that a two-member committee, consisting of Senators Shibli Faraz and Kamran Murtaza, will handle legislative matters in the Senate.
