Founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan challenged £190 Million case proceedings by submitting a petition at the Islamabad High Court. The PTI founder has sought to halt the proceedings related to the £190 million reference and has also challenged the trial court’s August 12, 2024 order. Additionally, Imran Khan has requested the court to provide records of the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) April 2020 decision to close the caseIn his petition, Imran Khan argues that the decision to close the £190 million case was made during NAB’s 343rd Executive Board meeting, and he claims that the trial court previously denied a request for the meeting’s records. He asserts that the absence of this crucial evidence could severely affect his defense.
The petition names the Chairman of NAB, the Director General of NAB, and the Prosecutor General as respondents. Imran Khan’s legal team emphasizes that the investigating officer’s acknowledgment of the NAB board meeting during cross-examination underscores the importance of presenting the meeting’s record to the trial court.
Additionally, Imran Khan’s sisters, Azma Khan and Aleema Khan, have requested that the Chief Justice recuse himself from the case, citing concerns that the Chief Justice’s remarks about the £190 million case could bias the proceedings. They argue that comments related to the wildlife case are irrelevant and potentially harmful to the £190 million case.
The case involves allegations that Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and others improperly benefited from £190 million sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government. They are also accused of receiving over 458 kanals of land in Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, intended for the establishment of Al-Qadir University.
Imran Khan was arrested on May 9, 2024 by Rangers personnel at the Islamabad High Court in connection with this case, sparking nationwide protests. He was subsequently granted bail.
This ongoing legal battle continues to attract significant public and media attention as Imran Khan challenges the judicial decisions and seeks to clear his name.
