Islamabad safest capital is another globally recognized achievement of Pakistan because Islamabad ranked 93rd as one of the safest cities in the world, out of 380 cities in Numbeo’s 2025 Safety Index. The latest ranking emphasized the strong performance of Pakistan’s capital in public safety and overall quality of life.
Islamabad surpasses several major international cities with a safety score of 67.9. It includes London with a safety score of 45.8 in 270th place, Berlin with a safety score of 55.3 in 187th place and Paris with a safety score of 41.9 in 303rd place. It even ranks higher than regional peers, for instance, Lahore, with a safety score of 63.1 in 130th place, as well as popular cities such as Moscow, Sydney, Toronto and Barcelona.
This recognition follows the previous approval of the United Nations (UN) declaring Islamabad a “family station,” which builds up its image as a secure place to work and live. According to Islamabad police, compared to the previous year, overall crime in Islamabad has reduced by 20 % in 2025. This significant improvement is attributed to both operational strategies and the commitments of law enforcement personnel.
According to police, street robberies were reduced by 19%, burglaries dropped by 74 %, theft lowered by 12%, vehicle and motorbike thefts declined by 22% and reported murders decreased by 17% in 2025. Additionally, fewer than 600 crimes were reported to Federal Capital, highlighting the shift toward enhanced public safety.One of the key factors behind the success has been an incentivized campaign against all criminal activities, especially drug trafficking and illegal trades. The police crackdown targeted liquor sellers and narcotics distributors with the expectation of measurable outcomes.
The Islamabad police have also been actively involved in community outreach and preventative efforts. For example, the “Nasha Ab Nahe’ (Drugs, No More) campaign brought the senior officers into the schools and colleges to educate on the danger of the substance , aiming to raise awareness among the youth. This initiative led to many arrests and the confiscation of illegal drugs.
