Initially planned for a December 2022 release in India, the film faced indefinite delays, leaving fans in suspense. INOX, a major Indian multiplex chain, confirmed that the release had been postponed at the time, without a new date being provided. Despite Zee Studios acquiring the distribution rights for release in Delhi and Punjab, no further information was shared during the 2022 delay.
There were also reports of potential opposition from Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), but the Punjab Censor Board was expected to approve the film. Now, with its October release, The Legend of Maula Jatt will become the first Pakistani film to screen in Indian theatres in over a decade, following the success of Shoaib Mansoor’s Bol.
Having debuted in Pakistan on October 13, 2022, the film has grossed over Rs 400 crore worldwide, marking it as the first Pakistani movie to reach this milestone.
