PIA Fresh Bids Invitations Expected Next Week for Upcoming Privatization

PIA fresh bids invitations are expected in the upcoming as the government moves ahead with privatization. The government announced an advertisement next week for the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and will send invites to fresh bidders, according to a statement issued on Wednesday, 16 April 2025, by the Privatization Ministry.

During the session on February 26, 2025, the National Assembly Standing Committee on Privatization was told that the first attempt to privatize the national airlines ended in failure, costing $4.3 million to the government.

Privatization Minister Abdul Aleem Khan stated in March that the government aims to complete all essential steps for PIA’s privatization by May. For the process, the Privatization Commission has since introduced a new structure of transaction, which includes 51 to 100 percent selling of the airline’s shares.

Moreover, a meeting of the privatization commission also took place on April 17, 2025, hosted by the commission chairman and adviser to the PM on privatization, Muhammad Ali. According to a statement given by the Ministry of Privatization, the board approved the pre-qualification criteria for the selection of eligible bidders for privatizations of 51% to 100% shares of PIACL (Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited).

“A fresh advertisement for expression of interest for the demerger of PIACL is planned to be published next week,” the ministry added. “ To consider the remaining items on the agenda,” the meeting will resume tomorrow.
