Punjab Govt Rolls out Hybrid Double Decker Buses to Promote Tourism in Major Cities

The Punjab government is set to roll out five new hybrid double decker buses on various routes in Lahore as part of its efforts to promote tourism in the province. This initiative aims to enhance the tourist experience while offering an environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

Additionally, the government will introduce one hybrid double decker bus each in Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi, expanding the tourism infrastructure in these cities. Multan and Faisalabad will also see the launch of similar double-decker bus services to further promote tourism.

At the launch event, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally inspected one of the hybrid double decker buses and took a ride to experience the service firsthand. She was briefed by officials from the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) about the operations of the buses, which originally started in November 2015 during the tenure of former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

These tourist buses cater to a wide audience, including students, diplomats, corporate sector representatives, and the general public, offering a unique way to explore the province’s cultural and historical landmarks. In Lahore, the newly launched tourist buses will operate from Qaddafi Stadium, covering a variety of sightseeing destinations.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz highlighted that the hybrid double decker buses are not only modern but also environmentally friendly, marking a significant step toward sustainable metropolitan tourism in Punjab.

An 18-department task force, led by the Punjab Transport Minister, has been established to oversee this project.
