Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stalwart Sher Afzal Marwat resolved differences with PTI party leaders after a meeting with the imprisoned PTI founder, Imran Khan.
I met Imran Khan today after three months,” Sher Afzal Marwat told journalists outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. “We shook hands, and he embraced me. Both sides exchanged concerns.”
The PTI lawmaker in the National Assembly, who had been in a tense conflict with fellow party leaders for several months, stated that he is now setting aside his disagreements following Imran Khan’s orders and assurances.
Sher Afzal Marwat, who faced termination of his basic party membership earlier this month for violating party discipline, declared that only Imran Khan has the authority to remove him from the party. He also apologized for his previous remarks against PTI leaders.
Discussing his future plans, Sher Afzal Marwat revealed that he has been tasked with preparing for PTI’s power show on August 22. He added that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan emphasized the need for unity within the party and stressed that internal conflicts should not resurface.
Known for his outspoken nature, Sher Afzal Marwat has repeatedly clashed with fellow PTI leaders over controversial statements. Earlier this year, he stirred controversy by alleging that Saudi Arabia was involved in the 2022 ousting of Imran Khan’s government. The PTI leadership distanced itself from his comments and issued a show-cause notice to Sher Afzal Marwat.
In August,2024 PTI moved to cancel Sher Afzal Marwat’s basic party membership for “gross violation of discipline,” but the decision sparked division within the party’s leadership, with PTI Chairman rejecting the notification as “fake.”
