Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) issued a strong condemnation of the violent attack on Pakistan consulate Frankfurt by a group of extremists. The Foreign Office also criticized German authorities for their inadequate protection of the consular premises.
According to report Afghan nationals threw stones at the Pakistani consulate and even removed the Pakistani flag, sparking widespread outrage on social media.
The FO’s statement condemned the breach of security at the consulate, emphasizing that the safety of consular staff was jeopardized. The FO reminded the German government of its obligations under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (1963) to safeguard consular premises and ensure diplomat security.
The statement included a call for Berlin to take “immediate measures” to enhance the protection of Pakistani diplomatic missions and staff. The FO also urged local authorities to swiftly arrest and prosecute those responsible for the attack and address security lapses.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif commented on the incident, questioning Pakistan’s continued hospitality towards Afghan nationals. Defence Minister highlighted Pakistan’s past military support and alliance with the US, noting that despite this, Afghan nationals have shown hostility toward Pakistan. He suggested that it might be time for Pakistan to reconsider its stance on hospitality.
This incident is not isolated; in 2019, tensions between Pakistani and Afghan fans flared during a cricket match at the Asia Cup, resulting in clashes and property damage.
