Islamabad Public Schools to Open on Saturdays, new policy announced by the government. The federal government has abolished Saturday as a weekly holiday for all public schools and educational institutions in Islamabad. This significant policy shift, effective from August 10, 2024 is outlined in a notification issued by the Ministry of Education.
According to the official communique, starting August 10, Saturday will no longer be considered an off day for government educational institutions in the federal capital. This move aims to enhance educational outcomes by increasing the instructional time available to students.
The Ministry of Education’s notification highlights that, as part of this new policy, two additional classes will be held on Saturdays. These extra classes will focus on Language and Mathematics, providing students with an opportunity to strengthen their skills in these critical subjects. However, attendance for these classes will be optional, allowing students the flexibility to choose whether or not to participate.
This decision follows reports from June indicating that the federal government was considering the removal of Saturday’s weekly off to reinstate a six-day work week in government offices. Insiders had revealed that the Cabinet Division had sought recommendations from all ministries, which were then forwarded to the federal cabinet for final approval regarding weekly offs.
By implementing this change, the government aims to maximize the utilization of educational resources and improve the overall learning environment for students in Islamabad. This policy is part of a broader effort to enhance the quality of education and ensure that students receive adequate instructional time to excel academically.
