Sri Lanka Dominates India in ODI Series for First Time Since 1997

In a stunning performance, Sri Lanka Dominates India in ODI Series, defeating them by 110 runs in the third ODI in Colombo, securing their first series win over India since 1997. The hosts clinched the three-match series 2-0, with the first game ending in a tie and a 32-run victory in the second ODI.

India’s batting line-up crumbled under pressure, managing only 138 runs in 26.1 overs while chasing a target of 249. Captain Rohit Sharma was the top scorer for India, contributing 35 off 20 balls. However, the collapse began after Sharma’s dismissal, followed by Virat Kohli, who was out after scoring 20 off 18 balls.

Sri Lanka’s spin attack dismantled India’s middle order, with Rishabh Pant (6), Shreyas Iyer (8), and Axar Patel (2) all falling cheaply. Washington Sundar’s 30 off 25 balls offered some resistance, but it wasn’t enough as India was bowled out in 26 overs.

Sri Lanka’s Dunith Wellalage starred with the ball, claiming five wickets, while Jeffrey Vandersay picked up two.

Earlier, Sri Lanka set a target of 249, posting 248 for seven in their 50 overs. Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando gave Sri Lanka a strong start with an 89-run partnership. Fernando narrowly missed a century, scoring 95 off 102 balls, while Kusal Mendis added 59 crucial runs to guide the hosts to a competitive total.

Sri Lanka’s emphatic win marks a significant milestone, ending a 26-year wait for an ODI series victory over India.
