Pakistan Shows Solidarity with Bangladesh After Floods Stranded Millions

Pakistan Shows Solidarity with Bangladesh After Floods Stranded Millions. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended Pakistan’s full support to Bangladesh following devastating monsoon rains that have led to significant flooding, resulting in the tragic loss of 15 lives and affecting over 4.5 million people in the South Asian nation.

In a letter addressed to Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound sorrow over the catastrophic flooding. He conveyed the sympathies of the entire Pakistani nation to the government and citizens of Bangladesh, stating, “We stand with the people of Bangladesh who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods due to the floods.”

The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the resilience and bravery of the Bangladeshi people during this crisis and expressed optimism that the nation would overcome these challenges under Dr. Yunus’ leadership. He assured that Pakistan is prepared to assist Bangladesh “in every way during this difficult time.”

Bangladesh, home to 170 million people and traversed by numerous rivers, is highly susceptible to natural disasters and climate change impacts, as highlighted by the Global Climate Risk Index. The latest bulletin from the disaster management ministry confirmed that 4.5 million individuals have been affected, with 15 confirmed fatalities due to the flooding.

Nearly 190,000 people have sought refuge in emergency shelters across 11 of the 64 affected districts, with Feni, located approximately 100 kilometers northwest of Chittagong, identified as the worst-hit area.

Rescue volunteer Zahed Hossain Bhuiya described the situation in Feni as catastrophic, stating, “We are trying to rescue as many people as we can.” In response to the emergency, both the army and navy have been mobilized, employing speedboats and helicopters to aid those stranded by rising floodwaters.
