The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially announced the winners of its highly anticipated Banknotes Design competition, marking a major milestone in the launch of a new series of currency notes. The competition, initiated in March, sought “innovative and thematic design ideas” for the creation of Pakistan’s upcoming banknotes.
In an official statement, the SBP expressed its appreciation for the participants’ efforts, commending the talented local artists and designers who submitted their work. “The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is pleased to announce the results of Art Competition for the designs of new Banknote Design series. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winners and express our gratitude to all participants who showcased their creativity and artistic vision in this significant national endeavor,” read the SBP’s statement.
The central bank further elaborated that the evaluation process was rigorous, with a panel of experts meticulously reviewing each submission to select the best designs. The SBP noted that many of the participating artists had incorporated the image of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, in their interpretations of the new banknotes. Some entries also featured his sister, Fatima Ali Jinnah, who is fondly remembered as the “Mother of the Nation.”
The first-place prize for the Rs 10 note was awarded to Dr. Shery Abidi, while the second place went to Mirza Sufiyan.
In the Rs 20 note category, Haroon Khan emerged victorious with the top design, and Syed Fawad Hussain was declared the winner of the Rs 50 denomination.
The Banknote Design competition for the Rs 500 denomination was won by Hadiya Hassan, with Aynee Zahra securing second place.
The competition for the Rs 1000 note saw Noureen Aslam win the first prize.
while Memoona Afzal achieved the distinction of being the only artist to win in two categories, having secured first place in both the Rs100 and Rs 5000 denominations.
The second prize in the Rs 5000 note category was awarded to Karim Muhammad.
In addition to announcing the winners, the SBP acknowledged the shortlisted entries, explaining that the selected designs are “suggestive in nature” and would be shared with a group of international designers. These international experts, who have been chosen to collaborate with the SBP, will work to finalize the Banknote Design for the new currency series.
The SBP assured the public that the final designs would reflect a blend of local creativity and international expertise. The bank also emphasized that the new currency notes will represent Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and embody the country’s progressive vision. According to the statement, the final banknote designs will symbolize the collaborative efforts of both local and global designers.
