Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, highlighted Uzbekistan’s role as a significant trading partner of Pakistan during the celebration of Uzbekistan’s 33rd Independence Day in Islamabad. The event, which took place with great enthusiasm, featured Minister Khan as the Chief Guest, attended by dignitaries, diplomats, and military officials, symbolizing a new chapter in the blossoming relationship between the two countries.
In his address, Minister Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the unique and enduring ties rooted in shared history and culture. He stated, “Pakistan views Uzbekistan as a significant trading partner in Central Asia. Over the past three years, our bilateral trade has grown substantially, reflecting the strong bond between our two nations.”
The Minister also spotlighted the success of the “Made in Pakistan” exhibition held in Tashkent in June 2024, which showcased 85 Pakistani companies and attracted numerous Uzbek businessmen. He encouraged the business communities of both nations to seize opportunities presented during the business forum, stressing that economic and trade relations should soar to new heights.
Minister Jam Kamal Khan further remarked on Uzbekistan’s pivotal role as the first Central Asian nation to sign both a Transit Trade Agreement and a Preferential Trade Agreement with Pakistan. He noted that Uzbek traders are increasingly utilizing Pakistani ports for their global imports, underlining the significance of Uzbekistan as a trading partner.

Uzbek Ambassador to Pakistan, Oybek Usmanov, praised Pakistan’s efforts in enhancing connectivity, especially in defense, trade, and regional infrastructure. He pointed out that bilateral trade has reached half a billion dollars, with aspirations to hit $1 billion soon due to joint efforts in transit and logistics agreements. The trilateral Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway project was also highlighted as a transformative initiative for regional connectivity.

In conclusion, both leaders expressed optimism for the future. Minister Jam Kamal reiterated his commitment to deepening economic ties, stating, “Despite challenges, we can expect steady, gradual, and persistent growth in Pakistan-Uzbekistan trade, driven by enhanced public and private sector engagement.”
