In a stern move to improve road safety, DIG Traffic Police Ahmed Nawaz has announced plans to revoke driving licenses of motorists guilty of repeated traffic violations. “Licenses of such drivers will be seized, cancelled, and forwarded to the concerned licensing branch, effectively revoking their driving privileges,” he stated during a high-level meeting at his office.
The meeting was attended by the SSP Traffic of District West and all section officers. The focus of the discussion was on stricter enforcement of traffic laws, with a particular emphasis on taking action against habitual offenders. As part of the crackdown, authorities will revoke driving licenses of those who repeatedly disregard traffic rules, putting public safety at risk.
In addition to the focus on motorists, DIG Ahmed Nawaz highlighted the issue of commercial vehicles frequently breaking down and causing traffic disruptions. “These vehicles will be impounded, and their fitness certificates cancelled,” he warned, adding that such vehicles will not be allowed back on the road until they are fully repaired and deemed safe for operation.
DIG Nawaz instructed all DSPs and section officers to identify accident-prone areas and develop targeted strategies to prevent mishaps. By evaluating the underlying causes, such as poor road conditions or faulty signals, authorities aim to provide safer travel options for the public.
In addition to these steps, areas with infrastructure problems will undergo repairs in coordination with relevant departments, ensuring the elimination of road defects. Pedestrian bridges will also be clearly marked with signs displaying reduced speed limits to further prevent accidents.
The revoke driving licenses policy forms a key part of this broader strategy to enforce traffic regulations and improve overall road safety.
