For eligibility, the applicant must have provided either a Canadian temporary resident visa or a current US non-immigrant visa for tourism or business purposes through air travel. The process of application is online and needs a valid passport, email address, credit card, and internet access. The fee is CAD $7, which is equivalent to $5, and according to Fraser (Minister of Canada), most of the approvals are issued “within minutes.”

Visitors who are not eligible for an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) or traveling by train, car, bus, or cruise ship are still required to have a visitor visa.
