A local agricultural research company has successfully harvested a three-fold increase in yield using Chinese Hybrid Chili Seeds in cultivation projects across Sindh and Punjab.
“We have successfully reaped 75 maunds per acre yield of chillies from three different Chinese varieties in the local environment, compared to 25-30 maunds produced by indigenous seeds,” stated Dr. Abdul Rashid, a farm scientist at Guard Agricultural Research & Services.
These Chinese hybrid varieties, with fruit over six inches long, were sown on 7,500 acres across various districts in Sindh and Punjab. Dr. Abdul Rashid shared that next season, the cultivation area will expand to at least 30,000 acres. He made these remarks during a visit to a model chillies farm.
Dr. Abdul Rashid added that Chinese company LTEC is collaborating with Guard to enhance local crop productivity and that all chilli yield will be purchased from growers for export to China.
