Instagram has rolled out a new Instagram feature allowing users to comment directly on Stories, a tool people are already using more frequently than traditional posts. This move shifts the platform’s approach from private responses to a more public engagement model.
The new Instagram feature enables users of the Meta-owned photo and video-sharing platform to publicly interact with Stories, fostering better connection and visibility. However, the commenting ability is limited to followers and those the user follows.
Instagram spokesperson Emily Norfolk explained that, like Stories themselves, comments will be temporary, lasting up to 24 hours. Users can also toggle the option to allow or disable comments on their Stories. It remains unclear whether these comments will be archived once a Story expires.

This update follows Instagram’s previous feature that introduced disappearing “notes” on grid posts and Reels, which vanish after three days. Temporary notes overlay on posts, making comments from friends more visible.

Additionally, Instagram revealed that certain likes will now appear as floating hearts on posts, similar to the likes on disappearing notes.
