In first and initial phase, the e-taxi service will start its operations in Lahore and other major divisions and districts, with plans to expand its network across big cities throughout Punjab. Collaboration with Electric Vehicle Manufacturers

The Punjab Transport Department has initiated groundwork for the project, engaging in discussions with various electric vehicle manufacturers. Prominent companies, including Deewan Group and the National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC), have shown strong investment and partnership interest on this remarkable initiative.

Benefits and Challenges

While the introduction of the e-taxi service may slightly impact employment within conventional taxi services, officials anticipate that it will generate new job opportunities and reduce travel costs for the public. Moreover, as an eco-friendly initiative, the e-taxi service is poised to significantly reduce air pollution, contributing to a cleaner environment across urban areas in Punjab.

A Step Toward Sustainable Urban Mobility

This move aligns with the government’s broader efforts to promote sustainable urban mobility and address environmental concerns, including smog and heavy traffic congestion. By adopting electric vehicles in public transportation, Punjab aims to enhance air quality and provide residents with a comfortable and efficient travel experience.

Recently, Punjab government also announced eBuses initiative for Rawalpindi city, introducing 102 electric buses operating on 10 newly designated routes spanning 86 kilometers. This initiative aimed to modernize the city’s public transport system, reduce air pollution, and provide direct connectivity between Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
