WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging platform owned by Meta, is gearing up to roll out an innovative WhatsApp new feature that promises to significantly enhance user privacy. This highly anticipated feature will enable users to engage in conversations without disclosing their phone numbers, thus adding an essential layer of anonymity to their interactions.
With this WhatsApp new feature, users will have the option to create unique usernames that will be visible to those they are chatting with, instead of their phone numbers. This functionality aligns WhatsApp with other messaging platforms like Telegram, which have successfully implemented similar privacy features. The latest version, 2.24.18.2, of the WhatsApp new feature is currently available in the WhatsApp Beta for Android, and it is undergoing testing to ensure a seamless user experience.
Once the WhatsApp new feature is fully operational, users will be able to share their usernames with others, allowing them to initiate conversations without the need for phone number exchanges. However, it’s important to note that for those who already have each other’s phone numbers saved, the phone number will still be visible during chats.
In addition to this, the latest beta version introduces a measure aimed at reducing spam. Users who have not previously interacted with each other will need to input a PIN—comprising at least four digits—to initiate a conversation, even if they know the other user’s username.

While the exact release date for the WhatsApp new feature and the PIN support remains unclear, several reports suggest that it is unlikely to go live before the end of the year. Earlier, there were indications that WhatsApp was also developing a feature allowing users to reshare status updates where they have been tagged, akin to a similar feature on Instagram. This WhatsApp new feature will simplify the sharing process of status updates, making it easier for users to disseminate content to their contacts.
