Sher Afzal Marwat Claims Gen (Retd) Faiz Harmed the Party More Than He Helped

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Khan claims Gen (retd) Faiz harmed the party more than he helped, who was recently detained by the military on charges of power abuse and Army Act violations. Sher Afzal Khan Marwat emphasized that, as a lawyer, he cannot endorse Gen Faiz Hamid’s actions, which included victimizing political opponents and lodging cases against them.

Sher Afzal Khan Marwat confirmed his stance, initially expressed on February 15, 2024 that Faiz Hamid’s misconducts, blamed on PTI, did more harm than good to the party. The retired general is under investigation for allegations of land grabbing and other abuses, with a Field General Court Martial initiated against him. Additionally, three more retired officers were taken into custody following Faiz Hamid’s arrest, according to military sources.

Addressing the issue of terrorism, Sher Afzal Khan Marwat criticized the decision to reintegrate TTP militants into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that the lack of proper rehabilitation led to instability and lawlessness in the province, with 70% of KP now facing serious security challenges.

Regarding the upcoming  22 August 2024 rally, Sher Afzal Khan Marwat asserted that it would proceed as planned, despite government attempts to thwart it. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, speaking on the same program, expressed doubts about the rally being allowed, citing PTI’s history of unrest during such events. In contrast, he noted that Jamaat-e-Islami’s recent sit-in remained peaceful and within Rawalpindi’s limits.
