Sindh Province is experiencing a staggering dengue outbreak records 135% cases over last seven months, with the Sindh Health Department reporting a total of 1,167 cases to date. Of these, a significant 1,022 cases were detected in Karachi alone.
The health department’s report highlights that 1,034 dengue cases were documented in Sindh from January to July 2024, a sharp increase from the 440 cases reported during the same timeframe last year. The breakdown of this year’s cases reveals concerning figures: 83 cases were reported from Hyderabad, 34 from Mirpurkhas, and 12 from Sukkur. Additionally, both Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad reported eight cases each.
Karachi remains the epicenter of this outbreak, with the highest number of dengue cases concentrated in district East, which reported 329 cases. Other districts in the city also faced significant numbers: 241 cases in Central, 197 in South, and 86 in Korangi. The provincial health department indicated that Keamari reported 66 cases, district West 60, and Malir 43.
Tragically, the ongoing outbreak has resulted in one reported death in Karachi this year due to the vector-borne disease. The rise in dengue cases has raised alarms among health officials, prompting increased awareness and preventive measures across the region.
