BYD Pakistan Predicts ‘Electric Vehicles Future’ Capturing 50% of Sales By 2030

Electric Vehicles Future looks promising as BYD Pakistan, collaboration between BYD and Mega Motors, announces plans to establish a robust charging infrastructure network in the country. The company is working closely with two leading oil marketing companies to achieve this, as per a statement from Kamran Kamal, BYD’s spokesperson in Pakistan.

The push towards electric vehicles’ future aligns with BYD’s ambitious goal of having 50% of all vehicles purchased in Pakistan electrified by 2030. This is part of a global shift towards cleaner transportation solutions. BYD, which recently entered the Pakistani market, plans to introduce three new electric vehicle models later this year and is set to open its assembly plant by early 2026.

Warren Buffett-backed BYD is making significant strides in capturing the Pakistani auto market, which has traditionally been dominated by Japanese automakers like Toyota, Honda, and Suzuki. Kamal noted that the key challenge in achieving this transformation in Pakistan’s auto sector is the development of adequate charging infrastructure. However, the company is optimistic, as the government has started incentivizing the construction of EV charging stations, with plans to provide affordable electricity to power these stations.

As part of its commitment to building the electric vehicles’ future, BYD Pakistan is focusing on establishing 20 to 30 charging stations in the initial phase of its operations. This move is expected to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across the country. While fully assembled vehicles face higher import duties, the company is also prioritizing local assembly to bring affordable electric cars to the roads sooner.
