Indian music producer, rapper, and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh has recently opened up about his spiritual journey and how his exploration of Islam influenced his understanding of faith. In an exclusive interview with an Indian journalist, Honey Singh shared personal details about his experiences with Islamic teachings, guided by spiritual leaders and Sufis, which shaped his perspective on life and faith.
Honey Singh recalled moving to Mohali, Punjab, in 2007, at a time when he was still an unknown figure in the music industry. During his stay in Mohali, he crossed paths with several religious scholars and Sufis who introduced him to Islamic principles. His curiosity led him to delve deeper into the teachings of Islam, as he sought answers to questions about faith, life, and spirituality. Through these spiritual encounters, Singh gained profound insights into the religion, learning about notable figures such as Prophet Moses, Jesus, and the role of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The music icon revealed that he was particularly fascinated by the portrayal of Jesus in the Quran and would frequently ask scholars for clarity on various aspects of the religion. The patience and knowledge of these spiritual leaders left a lasting impact on his life.
Reflecting on his career, Yo Yo Honey Singh admitted that after rising to fame in 2012, he veered off the path of faith, getting entangled in destructive habits. “That was the biggest mistake of my life,” he confessed, acknowledging how his choices took a toll on his health, life, and career. However, after recovering from an illness in 2018, Singh made a comeback with a renewed belief in God and a deeper understanding of spirituality.
Today, Yo Yo Honey Singh stands firm in his faith, attributing his personal and professional growth to the lessons he learned from the Islamic spiritual leaders and scholars he encountered early in his career.
